This is one of those things that possibly everyone else knew about except me, but Rob Hyndman’s blog recently pointed me to StackOverflow, a very nicely organized question-and-answer site for programmers. I’ve browsed the R, LaTeX, and Scala tags and immediately came across discussion of questions that have been on my mind for a while (respectively, namespacing functions in R, wrapping text around images in Latex, and speeding up Scala startup times).
While I’m recommending links, I’ll mention R for programmers, a short and to-the-point introductory tutorial on R for people coming from a programming background, which I would have found very helpful when I started; and How to write a scientific paper, from the Annals of Improbable Research, a very amusing and cutting satire.
